HOW TO BECOME A PERMANENT RESIDENT OF CANADA?

HOW ARE LMIA BASED WORK PERMITS PROCESSED?

Typically, foreign workers and employers must go through a two-step process in order to receive a Canadian work permit. First, the applicant must submit an application to ESDC for a Labor Market Impact Assessment, followed by a second application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) for the actual work permit. The LMIA is issued by ESDC who, after considering numerous protective labour market factors, authorizes the Canadian employer to hire a foreign worker.

HOW CAN PROVINCIAL NOMINATION HELP IN BOOSTING EXPRESS ENTRY POINTS?

Candidates in the Express Entry pool who obtain a nomination from a province are awarded 600 points under the Comprehensive Ranking System, out of a possible total of 1,200.

IS A JOB OFFER FROM A CANADIAN EMPLOYER MANDATORY?

No. While having an offer can enable you to score extra CRS points, not having a job offer does not exclude your Express Entry profile. However, you won't be qualified for certain Skilled Worker programs and that require a job offer from a Canadian employer.

DO I NEED WORK EXPERIENCE TO QUALIFY FOR EXPRESS ENTRY?

Yes, you need to have at least one year experience in a qualified occupation from The National Occupational Classification (NOC) A or B.

Under the Family Sponsorship category, the following individuals can be included in the sponsored person's application for a Canada Immigration Visa:

  • The spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner of the sponsored person
  • The dependent children of the sponsored person
  • The dependent children of the sponsored person's spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner
  • The dependent children of the sponsored person's dependent children
  • The dependent children of the sponsored person's spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner's children
